The National Transport Authority is responsible for the licensing and regulation of small public service vehicles (aka SPSV’s) in Ireland. This refers collectively to taxis, wheelchair accessible taxis, hackneys, wheelchair accessible hackneys and limousines. Its duties and responsibilities are set out in the Taxi Regulation Act (2003). The Board of the Authority decides on key taxi regulation matters. An Garda Síochána remains the licensing authority for SPSV driver licensing.
